Hydrogen Sulfide Ameliorates SARS-CoV-2-Associated Lung Endothelial Barrier Disruption

Recent studies have confirmed that lung microvascular endothelial injury plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of COVID-19. Our group and others demonstrated beneficial effects H2S several pathological processes provided rationale for considering therapeutic implications COVID-19 therapy. Here, we evaluated effect slow-releasing donor, GYY4137, on barrier function cell monolayer vitro, after challenging cells with plasma samples from patients or inactivated SARS-CoV-2 virus. We also assessed how cytokine/chemokine profile patients’ plasma, permeability, disease severity correlated each other. Alterations permeability treatments patient virus, GYY4137 were monitored by electrical impedance measurements real time. present evidence treatment reduced challenge completely reversed disruption caused showed but not changes our assay. Overall, these data demonstrate H2S-releasing compounds has potential to ameliorate SARS-CoV-2-associated disruption.
